Potsdam, Germany – January 15, 2026
The German Research Foundation (DFG) Priority Programme 2497 “DEFORM: Plate Deformation and Geohazards along the Eastern Margin of the Adriatic Plate”, officially kicked off with its first annual meeting, held at the GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences in Potsdam. The event brought together researchers and partners from the 18 funded projects within the programme, marking a significant milestone in collaborative geoscientific research.
During the meeting, project teams presented their objectives and methodologies, providing a platform for the scientists to align their efforts, share insights, and explore synergies that will drive the programme’s success in the coming years.
About DEFORM
The Adriatic region is highly exposed to natural hazards, especially earthquakes. The eastern Adriatic Plate, our focus area, offers a unique opportunity to explore the causes of these risks.
DEFORM’s goal is to model plate deformation and geohazards using advanced technologies like digital imaging, seismotectonic analysis, and numerical simulations.
Through collaboration, workshops, and partnerships, we integrate real-world data into 3D models. Our work aims to improve geohazard understanding and risk assessment in the Adriatic region.
